Went out for a ride and I gotta say, even though they aren't even CLOSE to bedded/broken in, these Lyndall Gold Plus pads are light years ahead of whatever crap came with the Wilwood caliper. I followed some advice from another thread here and did about 10, not aggressive 35mph to almost stops, let them cool down then did 8 45-50mph to almost stops, a bit more aggressively. Made sure not to let the pads sit on the rotor under pressure while not moving. Now I'm supposed to wait 24 hours. I know, over-complicating things as usual.

Anyway, I can't wait to see how these feel as they break in further. So far, a very noticeable improvement. They will definitely go on the right side as well. when I get all the parts together.

You pick the caliper new or used ? Pads came with mine I damn near pulled a stopie first time I grabbed a handful, was not ready for that haul down.

Got it New. That’s odd. I wasn’t blown away by it. Though it was a dramatic improvement over the single piston stock caliper. I guess my problem is that both my other bikes have dual discs vs the single on my FXR.

The fork lower just shipped, should be here in a few days, after which it'll get a quick turnaround out to Pau'ls Chroming in PA. While that happens I'm going to start gathering other parts. Looking at this rotor, which is on my current left side. 44101-95A. Looking at the install PDF from HD, it says something I found a bit odd: "This brake disc must be used ONLY with brake pad kit 44063-83C If that brake pad kit is not used, the disc will be damaged and its useful life shortened." So according to this my Lyndall Gold + pads will tear through this rotor?

I'm going to assume this is typical "use only our parts or else" BS, right?

Also, when I remove the wheel to swap the fork lower, do I need to repack the wheel bearings if they've been done within the last <700 miles/2 months?

Thanks

Disregard HD Brake Pad statement

Not necessary and you won't be pulling seals

Thanks

You don't need much of a "coating" ... No "Build-up" needed ... You probably will still have enough of that "Fresh" grease on it when removed to just rub it around (Re-distribute) on the axle. If not enough, just stick your finger in the grease seal and get a little more. If you had a bunch on it, it would just get scraped off by the inner bearing races when pushing it through.

Cool, thanks. This will be my first time taking off a wheel. Even thought its technically against the rules of my condo to do this kind of work in the garage, I figure I can get the wheel and right fork off pretty quickly, put a cover over the bike and bring the fork up to my apartment to swap the internals with the new slider (which I was happy to see shipped from Surdyke today) Chrome shop said they'll be done in a couple of weeks, so I am hoping to have this project done before September!

Shut the door or leave it down with some air space for venting and it's none of their damned business.

Yeah, no door. Big underground lot with 100 cars. Painted lines on the deck separating cars. No hiding it, and everything is everyone’s business it seems.
