Default Ignition sensor wire routing

I'm in the process of replacing a few parts in the cam chest, I noticed my ignition sensor plug had turned brown and had some goo running down the plate, so I bought a replacement. The wires are about 2 feet long and I can't for the life of me follow the original ones. It goes from the cam cover plate south, through a small plate with 2 bolts, then goes under the bike and disappears. Has anyone replaced this sensor before? Where do the wires go? The service manual is no help.

What bike are you working on and what cam sensor did you get?
Assuming you are talking about a stock cam sensor there should be 3 wires coming out of the sensor.
The wires should have connectors on them.
To replace you follow the wires to a rubber connector, separate the connector, pull the old wires out and push in the new wires making damn sure you have them in the right place.

Its a 94 wide glide and yes youre right, its a stock type with the 3 wires. Where on the bike do I find that rubber connector?

Thanks man

I'm not sure on a Dyna but it has to be between the ignition module and the cam sensor.
Just follow the wires.

PM me you email address or cell number and I can send you some pics this eve.

It comes out the bottom of the nose cone hole, goes down, behind the metal plate with the 2 bolts on it, then the wires go under the oil pump. They feed in between the oil pump and the two hard oil lines that go to the oil filter head. They then go under the engine and come up between the engine and inner primary cover right where the trans meets up to the engine (that gap),. You will a see a metal wire retainer with on bolt hole. Kind of like a sleeve. It passes thru that and then heads up by the tranny vent line, then up under seat behind the coil and fuse box area.

I took pics but sorry, no time to post them now, can't send them till dark. Have an appointment, if it's running late (waiting in the waiting room) and I get your contact info, I can send them from my phone while waiting. Otherwise, this eve when I get back. YD

Thanks man, I've followed it to behind the ignition box. Actually, behind the plate that the ignition box is mounted to. I've got 3 of the 4 bolts off but the lowest one is literally inaccessible. I'm going to try to remove the battery and go at it from across the bike with a couple ratchet extensions.

Holy **** I wasnt expecting to have to take apart half the bike to replace one sensor plug.

The extensions is how I did mine also. The battery box is not all that hard to remove, only like 3 bolts. I don't recall taking allot of chit apart but it was a few years ago. Have fun! Pics have been sent but not any pics from under the seat. YD
