I want to get my rims powdercoated black (Fatboy solid rims) but I am toying with the idea of having a machinist friend drill speedholes in a circle going through the rim before getting them done. I am wondering if they are solid or hollow?
I'd shy away from drilling holes in the rims. You could buy custom rims, or some years like my 2013 fatboy has holes from the factory. Perhaps check and see if you could swap wheels with a different year model, just make sure the size will fit.
Drilling holes in the wheels could bring a host of problems including balance and strength of the wheel.
Not sure... But there's some things I just won't **** with...
I'm with him ^^^^. I don't have the ***** to ride any cast wheel that's had material machined out after they were manufactured. That doesn't mean they won't be perfectly fine, it just means that's something I would never consider.

I can't speak for FB wheels, never having handled one, but I have a Deuce rear wheel and that is hollow. In fact there is a considerable cavity inside the disc, between hub and rim, so I certainly wouldn't drill holes through mine!
