I heard mixed things about using brackets to lower the back end.. up front Im looking at the Progressive monotube cartridge system
my budget is kind of open.. im not in a rush cause i have my FLSTS to cruise around on
I put a set of Works shocks on the back of my FLTR, stock 13" length (I am far from being vertically challenged). Some here use Ohlins, which are a premium shock and have the price to match. I tried Progressive shocks but did not like their tendency to top out. DO NOT USE LOWERING BLOCKS! They move the shock to a position on the swingarm that is known to result in a cracked swingarm. I hear good things about monotube setups and may try them someday, but it has not been very high on my priority list.

Hi Glenn, 1990 FLHS here, owned from new. Welcome to the wonderful world of Evos. We have an irresistable list of goodies to suggest to improve your bike and look forward to helping you spend all your spare cash! It's what we do, out of the goodness of our hearts......

While you have the rear end of your bike apart to replace the swingarm bushings, there are a few other things to consider, most particular replacing the rear rubber engine mounts. When I did mine I actually used a True-Track rear stabiliser kit with their swingarm bushings kit, but the CCE product is a great alternative. If you have an interest in such things I have a thread on the rubber-mount system. Upgrading those bushings rectifies one of the short-comings of the system, a T-T kit gives further and very worthwhile improvements, to improve ride quality and stability.

my goal is more of handling and braking, not so much into speed anymore besides i live near NYC and the drivers leave something to be desired to put it kindly. yeah im on the fence with progressive, i put a set of shocks on my 1997 FLSTS and it rides like a rigid now, should have kept the stock showas on it... ahhh live and learn
going to look into Works and Ohlins.. thanks

GRbrown...LMAO...yeah it goes out as fast as it comes in don't it?? thanks for the link I'll check out.. I'm open to what yall recommend or are using.. only thing i hate is doing/paying for something twice, I got it down to a frame to fix some minor surface rust repairs. the previous owner let it sit for 4 years and then decided to crank it up and ride so it has some minor top end issues as well, i have a good motor machine shop locally .. actually blessed with that cause they helped me out of jam with my 59 XLCH.. thought i could hone it myself---big mistake

Cool

With your bike down to the frame, I recommend replacing all three rubber mounts. I use stock ones, they're fine with my S&S 107" engine. The True-Track stabiliser kit is a thing of great wonder, sharpens the bike up as soon as you set off, improves steering and stability at all speeds, as well as at speed. I have Ohlins suspension front and rear, courtesy of HDF sponsor Howard at Motorcycle Metal. We'll have your chassis ship-shape in no time!

grbrown.. hey thanks for the heads up on T-T system. wasn't fully following what you meant so I headed over to their site...NOW i get it all..LOL a bit slow today. yeah the 20-10 sounds great, when i was stripping it down i was thinking how the rear powertrain stays isolated. the factory service manual and parts book arrived today so i feel a bit more comfortable in my build. I'm the type who needs the factory books, I sleep better having them. definitely replacing my mounts before the powertrain goes in.
