92 fxr
Like I said, family discount plus shipping. That's a $6000 bike (from what it sounds like).
I sold a 2004 Ultra converted to Street Glide to my Bro in Law for $5000 that had a 95" motor and a bunch of other goodies so perhaps I'm biased. This stuff ain't gold plated.

Good afternoon, I have an opportunity to pick up a 1992 FXR super glide from a family member. Bike is totally spotless, mostly stock and has 24k on the clock. He is the original owner and always was on top of service. What does everyone think is a fair offer on this machine? Any help is surely appreciated. Thank you. Sorry forgot to mention that the bike is across the country in AZ so I would have to have it shipped back to east coast
work situation will not allow me to fly out and ride if purchased.

Ask your FIL to cut you a deal. Offer $4500...that's fair for a bike that's 27 years old. He doesn't know how sought after these bikes are in California, and he doesn't need to know. Actually, I doubt if he even cares. It sounds like he just wants to get rid of it.
Now that I think of it, offer him $4000. What's the worst thing he can say? No?
My $0.02: All the numbers mentioned so far are in the ballpark. Call the price floor (with "family discount" and all that) around $4k, and the ceiling something like $6k. Family dynamics are always a mess when it comes to doing business. If it was me, I'd ask Pops to tell you what he needs for it. If he's between those numbers and you want the bike, pay him. If he's under $4k, tell him you have to pay him at least four grand. If he's over $6k, find a way to politely walk away from the bike.
Where ever you end up, if it was my family, someone will come along and complain that you took advantage of him.

Its an easy $8-9K in CA no problem, outside of that is usually a $4-6K bike depending on condition etc. Id just ask him if $3-4K is good enough and see what he says. More than that and its not a huge enough deal to stress over having it shipped as you could probably find one in riding distance to you in that price range. If he's hard up on getting all the possible money out of it then he's not doing you any favors and you should have no problem passing on the deal.
I just bought a 94 FXR Lowrider Custom (FXLR) on the east coast, 28k original miles, ev27 cam, Mikuni 42mm Carb, Bassani RR. Immaculate condition. Everything else is stock. $4500.
I agree with what everyone else has said. People who know the value of FXRs are selling them at a premium. The guy I bought it from originally listed it at $5500, he got a lot of calls from the West Coast, but nobody wanted to deal with paying shipping to the West Coast. I live on the east coast, I came in at $4000, we settled on $4500.
