Default 96 Nostalgia

Hi guys,

so i finally got my american ride of a lifetime!

so I have some doubts regarding this model´s history:
does anyone know where i can the hd catalog of 1996?
I would really love to know in detail the diffs, between versions special, nostalgia and classic of this year?
I believe the catalog coulb help a lot, at least with photos.

I would also love to change the cover of timing, lefthand, but it seems to be riveted on.
Does anyone know how to do it? There is some shady video on youtube, but is not very explicit, since there are two vertical rivets, but the guys insert 4 screw on the new cover.

thanks!

First welcome to the forum.
As for the '96 catalog why would you want one as most things in there won't be made anymore.
As for the timing cover all you have to do is drill the rivits.
When you put the after market one on all you will need is two screws.
8/32 I think but I can't remember for sure right now.

94 and 96 Nostalgias are my favorite softails. Post some pics. If by catalog you are asking about some sort of sales sheet outlining differences in models from 96 I think you are SOL unless you happen to find one online for a premium. With that 3 year limited run of those Nostalgias you might get lucky but other than that Id post questions in the Softail specific section looking for existing owners who could help you out more.

I doubt many over there even know what a Nostalgia is as HD changed the name to Deluxe for the Twinkie years.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies!

what i meant was if anyone would care to share this catalog:

This way maybe i could find out the real diff between softail 96 versions.

About the evo timing cover, i can see 2 kinds available on ebay, this (horizontal):

and this (vertical):

so which one do you think will fit? behind the rivets is supposed to be screws?
also, it is on the right side cover, not the left like i wrote

thanks

(orry i cant seem to be able to resize them pictures)

On the few ’96 Nostalgia I have seen the holes in the timing cover are alined vertical.
So Your picture no. 2 would be my best guess.

There is a way bigger selection in the aftermarket catalogs like Drag Specialties, Bikers Choice, Mid-usa, JP cycles etc
If you get the horizontal one you can bolt it right on if you get the vertical one you will have to rivet it into place.
Once you drill out the rivets the decorative cover will come off then you can unscrew the steel plate then just screw on the new timing cover with the horizontal holes.
You can look through the online parts catalogs to find differences between different softails if you want but you already have a Nostalgia so I don't get why you are worried about it.

Hi,

thanks, so i will buy the horizontal one.
I am of course worried not to buy the wrong cover, because once i remove the rivets...well...i wont be able to ride until i cover it again.

I am curious, about what differs classic and nostagiia.
And i cant seem to figure why some are special (like on the catalog), others nostalgia, as mine appears on hd site, after entering vin.

This is what i would like to have:

I also want to know if my bike is like original.
I will post photos of mine as soon as i can,

thanks

Wanting to know if your bike is original I understand what other models look like I don't understand unless you don't like what you have and want to change it.
If you do decide to convert what you have then unless you do your own work it's gonna get real spendy!!!!
Hell it's gonna get spendy even if you do your own work but it's way worse if you use a shop to do it.

Congrats on your bike … I have 3 different 1996 Models, Electra Glide Classic EFI, Road King, and a 883 Sportster … I looked through my books and I do have a Model Lineup for 1996 … what information are you looking for from the book?
