Morning gents! Just like the title says, whats the best option for wheel bearings, specifically, front bearings? Got the old gal in the dining room for the winter and noticed a little play and maybe a touch of grease on the left side bearing. OEM the way to go or? Thanks for any and all help
Thanks! Forgive my ignorance, but are there outer seals as well or just sealed bearings?
There are outer seals and make sure you go to the dealership and get Harley wheel bearing grease.
If you repack your bearings every time you put a new tire on your bike and use HD wb grease your bearings will last a very long time.
OP~ Are you sure it's the wheel bearings and not the fork slider bushings being worn? I ask as the wheel bearings in that generation are quite robust. Just be sure you use an "NLGI #2" grease. I use "RED-I" grease for my bearings. Nice and tacky grease.

Green Grease or Mobil red synthetic works every bit as well , been using the Mobil over a 1/2 million miles on my bikes without a bearing failure of any kind. Just the last several years went over to the Green Grease, I really like this stuff for harley work.
OP tapered bearing kits are available with new bearing, races and seals just pay attention to locations of any internal spacers & shims during disassembly and be sure to use Timken brand bearings not the cheap India or chiwanses crap that's common on the cheaper kits.

I forget what kind it was but the first wheel bearing grease didn't work so well.
Thanks for the tip on the on the other greases that will work.
Do you know what grease HD re-branded as their own? 'casue I know they don't make it!!!
fwiw, i can feel and see the movement right at the bearings, particularly the left side. Not saying that's definitive, but .... at 45k, I'm going to do the bearings regardless. Any procedure to check the forks?
