Default Exhaust Conversion

I have a 1990 FLHS with OEM duals. The mufflers mount to the pipe with a flange and flange clamp. Anyone saw the flange off the pipe so twin cam mufflers can be adapted? As an option, anyone ever seen an after market adapter from flange joint to straight diameter pipe? I've not looked at Twin Cam exhaust but I'm guessing they don't have the flange. If possible it sure would broaden the options for slip ons.

Thanks.

Frank

The answer is yes you can saw them off to accept the newer style . Others here will chime in I'm sure.Yeah, those clamps suck big time, I still have them on my 86.

Thumbs up

Hi Frank, fellow 1990 FLHS owner here, bought new. Yes you can saw off those flared bits and fit later mufflers, although I'm surprised your stock pipes are still around! The flared bits broke off my pipes, a bit at a time, until I was forced to find an alternative. You will find that any twincam set of pipes, off a Touring bike, will bolt right on. Some 2007 bikes had O2 sensors as did all 2008 pipes, so they will need blanking plugs. I actually have a 2008 SuperTrapp 2-into-1, with plugs, which is a simple bolt-on and an excellent choice IMHO.

If you want to save some money - Fullsac performance has a $179 kit that eliminates the crossover pipe.

They send a piece of straight pipe to connect the front header to the muffler.
They send a curved piece that goes into the rear cylinder, and connects to the existing pipe that crosses over the primary and down to the muffler.

They also send new gaskets and rings and so on, but that's negligible. It's cheaper than a full exhaust kit or a headers alone kit. Absolute best benefit of true dualswith absolute smallest cost.
