I was riding home from the gym last night..Took off from a red light was going through the gears when all of a sudden the bike lost all power. It didn't shut off, but the gear wouldn't engage. Thought maybe it slipped, down shifter, the bike lurched and gear still wouldn't engage..Coasted to a stop, probably in the worst area as the next street was uphill around a blind curve, no sidewalk, and I just got done KILLING my legs in the gym.
Got the bike off the main road. Checked tension on the clutch, all good there. Went through the gears with the bike off, seemed everything was fine. Started the bike again, and something just didn't sound right. When I first hit the start button there was a short whiz. Once upon a time the screw holding in the jackshaft backed out and the starter made the same noise. Will pull the primary off today and get a better look. I'm hoping the chain tensioner didn't fail.
I swear this bike has ghosts...There's always something
Equipment:
- S&S 113 w/ 600 cam
- Baker 6 Spd Trans
- Baker Street performance 9 plate clutch 37T
- Thunderheader
Look at the compensator. There was some nylon in there that looks like it came out. Full on primary. Prices of metal and nylon in fluid Chunk of nylon bouncing around like a ping pong ball
I think its BDL. I got it from Drag Specialties. Took the compensator apart You can see where it started rubbing on the spacer. The threads are ground down. Probably the metal shavings I saw in the fluid More ruined threads.
They are still available... Very expensive through the Dealer.. you can also get used or aftermarket new on Ebay... Book says it's a 25 tooth..
Stock was 25T comp with a 36T clutch. I went with 24T/37T when I up-graded the primary..I wanted a little more torque. I wish Baker made one, but it looks like they don't. My buddy is a tech at HD so he's gonna see what my options are
