So my starter went out the other day too. I go to start the bike that morning to leave from work and all I get is the whir. So I get the starter a second time and it fires up. I figure either it's a one time fluke or the starter is going. Leaving from work it just whirs, like 10 times. Then it caught and I beat it for the house. I remove the outer primary and the little gear that screws in to the starter is flopping around. I bent the tab around the bolt after tightening it and just don't see how that could have happened. I haven't pulled the starter itself out yet either.
Anybody know what would cause that bolt to come out? Maybe the starter guts are so loose it spun out from the inside?
I just saw this THC. I have the all ***** 1.4kw on my V111. It has no problems starting it when it's warm but it will struggle to turn it over when it's cold. This helped me though. Try retarding the timing a little. It will help starting.
I think in my case the acrs are really stiff to even manually activate. I am contemplating taking off the rubber boots and piling them. Then putting the boots back on of course. If I ever have to take the heads off I will have them machined for manual releases.
