Good advice if you’re looking to wake up a stock evo, it’s a reliable, proven combo and doesn’t break the bank.
I’ve ridden over 140k Miles with this configuration.
I had this setup on a ‘92 Heritage... great torque!

I added a Screamin’ eagle air box and ignition module. I’m not sure how much the ignition module helps, but it does raise the rev limiter.
I liked it enough on the ‘92, that I put the exact package on my ‘97 RK when new! (Kerker slip-ons on the RK)

I like the sound of the Python’s too, not too loud, with a nice bite to ‘em when you crack the throttle.

Supertrapp slip ons. Or thunderheader slip ons. All proven performers. Evos like backpressure

Forgot to mention Ness Big Sucker intake. I was pleased with the sound of the Pythons also.

Any insight on the power question, though? Or are slip-ons strictly for the sound?
Many exhausts are purchased for sound and/or looks. But they can be about more than just those two things. Exhaust does have a significant effect of performance.
My decision for exhaust would not be for a particular sound however, that is counter to why many folks buy exhaust, they DO want a certain "sound" or "look" and that's cool, just not what I want.
That said, I wouldn't want an exhaust that I thought looked or sounded bad (in my opinion) if given other choices and fortunately there are many to pick from.
Going to events and listening to other peoples exhaust and talking to them about the performance might help you decide on one for yourself.
Or, talking to a guy who actually tunes bikes will hopefully get you some solid facts about what works and what doesn't work performance-wise and point you toward something you'll like.
