Default Clutch plate replacement question

I’m replacing the clutch plates on my buddies 98 softail custom and was wondering if it was necessary to loosen the clutch hub main shaft nut, after I remove the adjuster screw? I watched a video where someone loosened it but he also replaced the primary chain. just want to make sure I do it correctly.

You don`t need to remove the clutch hub retaining nut.

Your friend, however, needs to buy a Factory Service Manual (not haynes, not chiltons...Genuine Harley Davidson).
