my 85 FL has a separate back rest. maybe look for an 85 hand rail and back rest. I think late model shovels would have the same setup. the part # is 91583-84.
I am looking to buy a passenger backrest for 88 electra glide. I took of trunk looking for backrest for passenger. This is possibly what I need.

Gentlemen, the reality is that H-D made less than 50k bikes per annum, when your bikes (and mine) were made, also that the variety of available add-on accessories was a fraction of what is available today. So while those backrest/racks were sold in the day you are looking for a needle in a haystack, sad to say! Also the habit of wanting to routinely remove or add stuff such as tourpaks and separate backrests is a relatively recent thing. Unfortunately you may find you have a long wait until suitable secondhand parts turn up, or need to get inventive.
HDF has an ads section, so do check there, where you can also place a wanted ad.
If you can weld it would be pretty easy to build it, some strap and square or rectangular tube is all it was made of. It bolted to the same bolts that the TP bolted to.
That being said It wasn't very hard to retro fit late model 98-07 stuff to my 89. Most of the problem was spacing cause the later frame were wider where the rear fender goes than ours.
