So I recently bought my first FXR, it is a 1986 FXR. Being this bike is a decade before me I don't know too much about these models other than people live and swear by them. After doing some research looking at other models and years I cant find any with the same tank as mine. Touring models seemed to have center fills and softail models did have the dual fill but it was a split tank. But I could be wrong. The tank on my bike is a single tank with one filler and one faux filler cap. Does anyone recognize this tank?
Also the frame has this welded tab/bracket on it with one large hole and two smaller ones beside it, that I don't see on other frames. I'm guessing its just a mount for the exhaust. Can anyone confirm that?
Aftermarket... with the "new" tabs welded to yer Frame...
In General the "kit" for the Sportster. will go right on an FXR... lots of 'em did it...
4 Speed Envy I guess
Prolly gots a FXWG rear fender as well Huh??
Poor FXR.... someone knew Nothing of what they were created for...
Before someone tells you to use that rear rubber donut exhaust hanger... Cut it off... or at minimum ignore it... mount the pipes like the Later FXR's do..

+1
Whatever you do don't mount your pipes to that bracket.
You will be very sorry if you do.
Yup aftermarket, installed a few of those on the early FXR's for guys who wanted the fatbob look and extra range.
Haven't had a chance to take it out for a longer ride so I haven't filled it up yet. But do you know the size of the tank compared to the original fxr tank?
