I`m thinking now... that is an `88 or earlier, because that lever looks like one of the mechanical starter lever set ups that some shovelhead guys use to replace the oem solenoid, look at the spot where the solenoid would go, there is a small square gizmo attached there...

Its a lever operating the starter motor instead of the electrical solenoid.
Petcock is in the "Reserve" position. Down is "Run" and back is "Off" at least that is the way it is on my wife's '85 FXEF. Of course the front of the lever has the arrow point on it. Therefore back on the lever points to "off" which is on the front of the face plate.
I would like a closer look at that lever that replaced the electric solenoid, because setting that thing up to engage the starter gear into the clutch gear is one PIA. Also a lot of miss engagements and gear grinding.
Those tanks don't look to be stock (to me anyway). The seemed a bit too curved underneath (could be the paint job playing with my eyes). Kind of hard to tell if they are stretched too. Either way a nice Evo Softie!!
