Default Ultra throttle cable

The throttle cable on my 1998 Ultra seems to live a short life like 3 years. They always break at the throttle in the housing. I never use tools to pull or grab the strands of wire. I always lube the cables with grafite when new and gets lubed/inspected every other oil change. Both cables are adjusted to spec per the service manual.

The OEM cable was discontinued by Harley a few years ago....in fact I never had an issue with theirs. The original cable lasted 12 years.

I’ve used one from Twin Power and Drag so far....cheap and China made.

Anyways.....am I doing something wrong? Is there a better brand?

Thanks

Yes you are doing something wrong.
You are buying from the wrong places.
For any cables always use Barnett IMO.

Thanks.....I forgot Barnett. I guess I was getting lazy when shopping online.

Moral of the story.....don’t buy cheap crappy cables.

Buy the best and you only cry once.

Barnett is the only way to go.

Adjustment will stop you from breaking cables. You have to make sure the twist grip hits it's stop at the same time that the throttle shaft on the carburetor reaches it's stop.
