Default Clutch hub question

I'm replacing bearing in the hub, 1986 four speed, who can school me about the so called reinforcement washer that sits over the smallest lock ring? Mine is damaged along with the ring under it, it needed to be pried off with a screw driver. Should it be snug fitted or loose?
Not shown in book but comes with a new hub and says it must be used.

So this is the reinforcement washer that somehow started to rub the inner primary bearing and causing it to crack and thinking the inner clutch hub bearing wearing is the cause of this.

I've never did much to the older 4 speeds. Doesn't seem to be much help here either.. I would post in the shovel section.. There are some real gurus on 4 speeds over there..

I was going to but some of those guys don't realize the difference between the fourspeed for two and a half evo years and the shovel years.

If memory serves me, it's a snug fit. Had to replace my 89 clutch hub a few years back. I believe I put a piece of wood over the ring and tapped it on the hub end. Your clutch hub key way looks in good shape. That retaining ring did its job protecting the keyway.
