Johnjz knows his chit. Send him a PM. Don't see him post much in the evo section any more. Anyways, he provides good info, straight to the point. Tells it like it is. YD
Mine didn't have one. Until I installed a Jim's Titanium one a decade or two ago once I discovered they made one......
Yes... the Band Aide, Washer is an Aftermarket item... far as i know the MoCo did not offer one... but I am far from expert on those years!!!
Truly I am very disappointed in that particular Design... there is two of the miserable "things" here... one on a project '86 FXWG, and one on the Eldest sons '86 Heritage Softail!!!
I much prefer the Shovelhead design personally... or...of course, the splined shaft and hub!!!!

So your saying that the spacer is similar to the ram jet that was used in the older seventies clutches as an after market fix for clutch basket movement?

Well... sort of... The Ramm Jet retainer is a really good idea, and well executed...IMO
the support washer??? IDK... it seems an Afterthought... again a real Band-Aide... seems If [big word] If the MoCo offered a Steel Hub [ie Shovelhead hub] the darn thing would not have become a Problem.. that and deciding to try to "drive" off that puny little Key!!!!! On a Shovel...the key don't do squat [If again IF the Fit is good, hub to shaft] I have run many miles on a hub with No Key... driving off the taper, as is supposed to be... like a Snowmobile Clutch... the Taper does the Driving... No Key...
Anyway... rambling on a bit more.. The support "washer" seems to hold the puny aluminum Hub sleeve together.. and I'm gonna use them!!! I will be using bearing mount Loctite on mine... just cause I do Not want it escaping and moving around in there!!!
