Default Banging noise.

OK, when I hit a bump in the road on my 1993 Heritage Classic I'm getting a banging noise coming from under or somewhere in the bike towards the rear not the engine. It's like something has broken or is loose. I'm aware of pretty much everything it could be but before I start tearing the *** end apart I'd like to hear from someone who has had a similar experience and what they found out it actually was.

my 85 did that too. it needed the neck bearings tightened slightly. it only took about 1/12 of a turn to fix it.

And that sounded like it was coming from the back of the bike?

If you only hear it at a bump I'd say you need new shocks.

Check your belt guard to see if one of the supports is cracked or broken.

If you have the original shocks it could very easily be the problem also the swing arm could be banging against the stop. Week shocks will let that happen...

Shocks are 2 1/2 year old Progressive 422 Heavy Duty. For $450 they ought to last more than 2 years.

1/2 dozen could be's, you'll just have to do the time in to find out which it is. This is like asking a doctor over the phone what kind clap you caught from a hooker in Thailand..

In all seriousness I'd check the shock mounting bolts to see if one is loosening up, that will give you a hard knock.

27 year old bike with two year old shocks? I'd say swingarm bushings going south.

How loud is it
Could it be your kickstand hitting against the frame or something when hitting a bump
