Make sure that sleeve in not grooved. Usually, it can be reversed for a new surface. Interesting but as the oil gets full of trash, it imbeds in rubber and grooves the steel. Softer material cuts harder material if there is any abbrasive material. Hence cast iron and copper lapping tools.

I had to tear down the primary to the stator-:then i drilled two tiny holes in the seal 180 degrees apart. Inserted 2 small sheet metal(?) screws i had kicking around- used vice grips to pull it out. It was tight- so i had to tap out with a small hammer on the vice grips.
lubed everything up- spacer and seal- and tapped in the new one with a small punch.
Large percentage of the time it's a stator screw coming loose and oil transferring through the holes.
I had those screws come lose years ago....there’s a reason not to reuse the screws. Last time I replaced the stator....probably 15,000 miles ago. They’re gonna be inspected anyways since the rotor has got to come out.
I’m probably gonna replace the seal anyways....even if it’s not the problem. It’s original and I’ll be in that area.
