Default Wheels rotors and calipers

So as many of you know I’m new here. And I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before shelling out my hard earned cash. This has probably been addressed before but I can’t find it. Here’s my question...

98 rk classic. Going with a 21” front wheel. Most are for 1” bearings and I know I can get spacers to go in the bearings. Point of concern is that most of the wheels I’ve found require 2000+ rotors. Will the 2000+ rotors work with my 98 calipers or do I need to change lower fork legs to a 2000+ Touring set?

I changed out the fork lowers 2000+ and used Brembo calipers plus the rotors.

No idea if 2000 rotors will work with the older style calipers or not.

Yes, your OEM caliper will work with 2000-2006 rotors and rims.. the only difference in the rotors is the the center mount hole went to a 2.2" diameter.. The outside stayed 11.5"..

If your new wheels come with 1" bearings they can probably be swapped to 3/4" bearings. All Harley wheels, from around 2000 and up to 2008 (possibly beyond) will take 3/4", 1" and 25mm ID bearings. I have an '08 front wheel swapped over from 25mm to 1" and an '04 rear swapped from 3/4" to 1". I used H-D bearing kits, which came with the correct internal bearing spacer tubes.

The rotors will work, but I would suggest that switching the lower legs and calipers to 2000 and up is a worthy and possibly cheap upgrade. The 4 piston calipers are much better than what you have, the existing master cylinder and brake lines do not need to be changed. Since you already have the wheel and rotors, all you need are the lower legs and calipers. Then you can bolt up the wheel as intended for 2000 and up, spacers, axle, bearing etc. Just a thought since you are there, good luck.

Although switching the lowers out with 2000 up works very well, the least expensive and quicker way is with a Wilwood 4 piston caliper.. Direct bolt on and made to work with our smaller 9/16 MC...

I'm thinking about it myself..
They can be found online for as cheap as $184..

OP, here's a write up on what I did to update my front wheel, it's not the same but will give you some background on the process. Haven't gotten to the rear wheel yet.
