I went with the Vtwin nylatron bushings in mine, they are supposed to "stiffen" the rear up a little....we'll see.

Please be sure to tell us how it works out. I was looking at those but it had no reviews and not much info.

I will...hopefully I'll have this thing running sometime next week, and if it doesn't work well I'll pull it back apart and change it for something else, but I think they will work....just not sure about how long they will work. I didn't want to invest much money in the old swingarm. I did a late model 02 and up swingarm with a CCE kit on my 89. I don't expect this kit to make as dramatic a difference as that did. But, if it works for a season or two while I gather those parts together, then I'll call it a win! That should be about rear tire time so it might work out....LOL.

All I can tell ya is that she handled wicked bad with the worn out cleve and pillow blocks. Didn't want to turn left, you had to force it over, but of coarse that was the worst side. So if these give a "factory" style ride I good for now.

Wouldn't hurt to toss the "3rd link" back there while you're at it. That would keep the swingarm/trans/engine permanently inline with the frame/forks.

First I want to thank you all for the help. I have done all that was suggested and it is improved. I did install a Smooth Rider stabilizer and the bike is good to about 60 MPH. At 70 it dose have an oscillation that will not settle out. I am thinking that the swingarm bushings that were Drag Specialties are the problem? If the Smooth Rider is working then the trouble must be aft. of that.
Thanks again, Sam

I can imagine your disappointment after all you've done.

Did you use OEM type (rubber) swing arm bushings from DS and are the isolators aftermarket also? Even with aftermarket parts, if all is in alignment (which needs to be checked again after swing arm rebuild) it shouldn't feel loose in the rear end as you describe.

Did you check the steering head bearings for loose or more importantly, check for smooth, with no hard spots?

And I'm assuming you made sure the front motor mount and fasteners are all in order?

Did you ride it at all before the tire change and was it wiggling then?

A culprit to this "high speed instability" is the clearance in the fork tubes, slider and lower bushings, to be exact.

You have a 26 year old motorcycle. Yes you put a couple band-aids on the bike to make it handle better but have you ever actually aligned the powertrain to the chassis, and have you swapped out your current heim joints and front motor mount?

Yes the alinement is perfect. New HD front motor mount. The isolators are new HD also. The head bearings are smooth as silk, I did snug them up just a tad. No play in the front end. The bushings in the swing arm are Drag Specialties. I will pull the rear tire and disconnect the shocks then see if the swing arm can be moved. If so, I think I will go back in with the radial bearing setup. The Heim joints felt smooth but that's a very good point. Thank you. The bike is much better up to 60MPH.
