You would do better measuring what it would take to go from the upper part of your compensator to the lower part of your clutch hub.
The one I made is actually longer than the ones you can buy and to be honest I like it better as I have both.
When I pulled the tranny on my 2014 street Bob I used a little plastic block off eBay that you jam into the teeth of the clutch or compensator. Worked well
You can also use other items laying around such as primary chain adjuster block, rubber door stop, or a good ole rag will do to jam up the chain and sprockets. Jam bars are nice for home, but I keep a triangular door stopper in the saddlebag. You could make one of those tools for cheap. Go to the Dollar store and buy a cutting board. Cut pieces and staggered glue them together, or just order one.

FWIW I've used a small block of wood (short piece of 2x4) that I had laying around.
As you say just about anything will do in a pinch.
I still prefer a small piece of bar stock that if needed is easily fit inside a saddle bag.
