FXR 1986 Factory pictures and info
It seems difficult to find good info on these very classic and collectable bikes, now becoming antiques. In the eighties, when I started to be interested in old bikes, the Knuckeheads were of the same age...
According to Greg Field in his book on the Evo just over 2.000 was made in 1986. These early Evo:s FXR.:s were not made in great numbers and as I see it, among the first truly great bikes Harley made since 1936.
I'm also trying to find out the design of the air cleaner insert, as it is missing on my bike? What did it say? I guess on top it says "Eighty Cubic inches", but what was the text below? "Superglide"? "Superglide II" or "FXR"?
Enclosed in this post are a few snapshots of how the bike looks today. I have the original exhaust, but the previous owner preferred straight pipes. It is a two owner bike sold new in Sweden in June 1986. The spoke wheels were part of the "export" package. The speedo is the original one with 52000 km. Note that is of the pre 1986 type, installing leftovers for export bikes was standard practice on H-D beginning in the teens and continuing up to the 1990-ies.

In the parts catalogue I have (84-86 FXR Parts) the part no. is supposed to be 29166-83. Have no idea if this is correct and how that part is supposed to look. It is possible to believe that the text should be "Superglide" (29175-85). This is what I'm trying to find out.
