Ran into same deal with my '89 last year. HD carries the switch for 93 and up. I used that one, wired it up and have had zero probs. It's close enough that you can make it happen.
Have you tried to take your switch apart andclean it. Lube it with electronics lube and you are back in business. I cannot vouch for your year butI have taken apart many motorcycle ign. switches due to them not working properly. Then they work perfect for a long time until they need another cleaning. Same with the handlebar switches.
