Default Road King problem!!

So today, I did a full service, and swapped out gaskets. Upon replacing the primary, and torquing the primary bolts...yep, one snapped. It broke on the easy to remove area, so no harm...just need replacements. I’ve searched high, and low, but no luck. Anyone have an inside guy? It’s for my 1994 Roadking. Much thanks!

They're just 1/4-20 bolts, aren't they? Going from memory but I think that's right. Should be able to get what you need at most decent hardware stores.

Or you could splurge and get a matching set of new chrome bolts from Colony or some other place.

Wow!!!There is a Modest torque specification, on the Outer primary hardware.. if Inner hardware..some one certainly put Sub Standard hardware in there.. Either way... take a Minute and look at the torque Specifications...

You were luck the bolt on snap. I stripped out the thread a couple times. Repair the damage with a helicoil.

I honestly don’t see how the bolt snapped. The threads in the aluminum will be trashed way before the bolt snaps off.

Just lightly snug the bolt up to the primary cover. No need for torque wrench.

Replacement bolts are easy to be had a a local Hardware store.

No, those bolts Harley used originally are made of cheese.

Either go to Home Depot (or whatever) and buy a Stainless steel replacement, or measure all your primary bolts and replace them all with stainless. MUCH better fasteners than Harley supplied originally.

I'm gonna disagree... Chiwanese chrome is like Grade Zero...Stainless is Not all created equal either...some is very soft indeed.
Good old Hardware store Allen heads are grade Eight and Strong.. Yea... I use Loctite as well...not all for Holding..more for Anti Sieze

I'm not splitting hairs. The SS at most fastener stores is excellent and strong. And it looks good holding down a Harley engine cover.

I find the OEM Harley Allen bolts to be superior. They are quiet strong in my opinion.

Hardware store Allen bolts are either a hit or miss. Most of the time, they are just fine. I have no problems using them on low torque applications such as holding a cover on.

The OEM Harley torx.....I don’t find them to be such a great quality. But then again, I hate Torx to begin with. These usually get replaced with Allen when applicable.

I've had so many OEM 1/4"x20 Harley fasteners break it's not even funny. Yes I take stuff apart repeatedly which I'm sure deforms them a little bit each time, but still, it's enough to replace everything with SS or Gr.8 wherever I see a need.
