question about the petcock bung hole, on my 1991 dyna FXDL
the petcock is on the front of the tank. Im replacing the tank with another dyna tank with the petcock bung hole at the rear of the tank. Im guessing just hook up the fuel line and Im good to go. I havnt taken the oem tank off yet but it looks like the petcock will clear the choke lever.
Anybody change there oem tank and had this change up with the petcock placement?
But the truth is, I've got no idea. What year is your new tank? Got pics?
Best I can offer is get the old one off and mock up the new one and see what's what from there. There are petcocks available in a variety of configurations. Odds are, you'll be able to find something that will work.
Yeah, pics would help. But, if the hose routing doesn't interfere with anything, like if the petcock is a 90 and it's now pointed at the head or something, then you should be fine.
It'll clear, but the old petcock takeoff nipple will be facing in the wrong direction.
You can turn the petcock but then the on/off/reserve won't be facing where you want it for convenience.
The only effect petcock location on a tank may have is how much gas you'll be able to get out of the tank. Petcock location is determined by the overall shape of the tank, how it's designed to sit on the frame and what may be in the way underneath it. Examples:
