Well. I feel like a idiot. Pulled outer primary to do the drill. Discovered the two inner primary bolts were loose. Two outers were loose also. Tighten all up. Buttoned up. 100 miles since. No leaks yet. knock on wood. My head.
Heck you couldn't know till ya got in there.
Good chance it'll hold and easily explains why the leak was getting worse.
I have wanted wait on repairs just so i could be in the mood to tackle them. Getting older I guess
It's kinda nice when ya get started and it turns out to be real simple. I don't mind feeling a bit silly when it goes my way lol
I recently put a bike together with parts from many other bikes.
I had a leak at the interface where the inner primary and engine meet.
The first time I assembled it I used Hylomar on the o-ring. I noticed a leak after a few miles.
I used Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker the second time I assembled it. It leaked immediately...in fact, the warm oil washed out the gasket maker at the joint.
The engine case and the inner primary looked just fine. No cracks, warping, not chipped or out-of-round that I observed.
So I assembled it with a layer of RTV and the used o-ring for whatever "filler" it provided.
No more leak but I expect it'll require a prybar to separate the pieces if I ever remove the inner primary again.
I waited a couple of days after assembly before I put oil in the primary and returned the bike to service.
Glad you found your problem on your bike.
