Finally got my garage space setup and my bikes back home. Started the belt to chain conversion today. Everything went smooth so far. Thought this would take some more time, forgot to get the tire/wheel mounted up. I'll drop it off tomorrow. Hopefully should have her up and running in a few days.

While she's up on the lift I need to fix some shitty taillight turn signal wiring and mount/wire my horn back in. Also going to be a good time to get 20+ years of dirt in those hard to reach spots.

Just about all buttoned up on the belt to chain conversion. New derby cover put on, the last "live to ride..." cover is off and all them are now garage wall art.

All this working on the bike got me some motivation to do a cam swap. Ordering an EV27, S&S adjustable pushrods, new lifters, torrington bearing, shim, etc. tonight.

Life has been busy the past several months. Haven’t had that time to continue to work on her until this week. Got a motorcycle show coming up in July, that gave me some motivation to get her running smooth.

I’m pretty certain she’s been suffering from an intake manifold leak. Can’t idle, decel pop, doesn’t want to warm up, etc. Ran some tests today, squirted some carb cleaner around the intake ports and idle speed changes, so I think I’m on it with the intake manifold leak.

Got her up on the table and torn apart. Hoping my local indie has some S&S manifold gaskets laying around.

Here's a video of her running today. Got some smoke coming out the exhaust. Hope she isn't burning oil. What you guys think?

IMO: Bike looks great! Idle is low, and give it a little run time before you get concerned about the smoke.

I agree on the idle speed. If you want it to pump oil to the top end, 900rpm Minimum. The factory recommends between 1000 and 1100.Sounds great though.

Thanks guys, solid advice.

I need a tachometer to dial in the idle rpm’s. I read somewhere else on here I could temporarily hook up a cheap tachometer to the coil just for that purpose.

Yes and no... cheapy tachs (temporary like you describe can be picked up on amazon, etc) but you can increase the idle by ear only. Post another vid for us to listen to after the idle adjust, we can help you get it pretty close.

Be advised, your idle will increase a little after it warms up so wait till after a ride to give it a little tweak to the idle speed screw.
