I would start with a compression test to see your base line and go from there.. As for the lifters, based on top end parts I'm sure they have been replaced as well.. Is anything giving you the indication that it needs to come apart? If you can post a video of how it's runs and idles that would also help to determine cam etc. What carb is on it?
Thanks for the replys.
She rides and runs perfect, no strange engine noises at all.
I have lifted the pushrod covers and they are stock, the only reason I am replacing the lifters is these early units tend to fail around 25,000 the bike has 27,000, so I thought "what the hell" I may as well replace them.
Bike has a Mikuni fitted, I dont have a video but I will do one and post it up.
Again, thankyou all for the replys and advise.
Dave.
Morning all.
I took a video this morning, the video sounds like crap, you can hear the piston slap from the mikuni at idle but as the revs go up that goes.
Engine sounds ok with no "bad" clunks clangs or tapping.....
I will probably pick up lifters and rockers gaskets next weekend, as i would hate to think they are ok and the fail on a week away trip with the misses.
