I would trust the folks on this forum before I trust people at the Harley dealer. I dont have much faith in them. My 2 cents.
i know what you mean. i was ordering something at the dealer once and he had told me that what i wanted was not going to fit my bike. he was quite adamant and said he has been in the part business for a lot of years. i took him out front and showed him the part that i wanted on my bike. all based on info from folks on this forum. these are the that folks that make things work
So I have someone locally getting rid of a 1997 evo moter. Says top end is ticking needs rebuilt. Im Shure its the lifters. Since they went to the oil tank on the tranny in 93 and my 92 has the oil bag on the frame would I need a different oil pump? And anything else changed.
Lifter rollers are a typical suspect if they have any up and down movement change them all - inspect the cam lobes as they get rubbed when the rollers go away
if one is real loose up and down look close at the block in the breather hole and the plastic breather
picture up what you find for correct answers but start your own post with the issue in the heading
It will fit. I knew a guy some years back that swapped shovels into evo softail frames. The mounts are all the same until the twin cam.
Similar idea but different, softail and shovels were both rigid mount engines, OP's is a rubberband frame setup. I don't remember if there's a difference in the trans mount between those years or not with the short primary combo's. Sorry
I have a question about the bolt pattern on the evo moters? My bike is a 1992 Harley Davidson ultra classic Electra glide flhtcu,With about 125000 miles on it. I wanna rebuild it, but I don’t wanna be down to long. I have a lead on a 1998 dyna wide glide with a evo moter in it. Will the moter fit in my 92 setup? Are the bolt pattern the same on all evo moters. Front mount, primary, and tranny mount.
Short answer... Yes. The Trans will mount to engine differently...Maybe... No Biggie.

I would rebuild your current set up and keep it original. The down time will be worth it in the long run and you'll know what you have. You could run into some demons with that other motor and then you're back at square one again. That's my 2 cents.

Ride safe!!
Yea... But.. as easy as it is to replace an engine in a rubbermount evo... may as well rebuild while ya Ride...
