Default EVO Head Torque

Is there a torque number for the heads of an EVO? I know about the two stage torque and then 1/4 turn procedure in the manual, but I was wondering if there is another procedure of torque without using the 1/4 turn procedure.

Some gasket guys say to use the 4 increment method ending at a final torque of 42 ft lbs. The MLS gaskets from James and Cometic both came with the 42 ft lb instructions.

I can't make it to the garage at the moment to get the numbers on the other three increments.

I've always torqued mine to 42 ft lbs as well with 10 ft lb increments. I would torque them all to 10 ft lbs, then 20 ft lbs, 30 lbs, then down to 42 ft lbs on the last one. Never once had a problem doing it this way and I think the 1/4 should be avoided.

For an Evo, at least a 86 Big Twin, the number is 7ft lbs, then 16 ft lbs, then+ 1/4 turn. RTFM.

I have always gone by the book. I mark the bolts so I know when the 1/4 turn is complete.

Those are stretch bolts. Hence the 1/4 turn.

Follow the manual. And -- don't re-use the bolts (I know some guys will say its OK, but bolts are cheap compared to a blown gasket in B-F, Whereever...)

thanks for info.
Still have not gotten parts back from shop. Heading for Mammoth Lakes on Thursday for dirt bike riding and camping. Will be visiting shop on Monday to see what's up with my parts.
