HD Part# 32405-91B (Ignition Module)
Need some help if possible again with my 88FXSTC. My 34 year old Ignition Module went out last night and I finally got the bugger out from under the oil tank.. (not a fun job). I went to Harley and they told me the original IM was #32405-88A. Well that has been crossed over now three times to (what they told me) is a #32405-91B. I pulled it out of the box and it has ONE plug. The one I took out had a 3 wires (red, black, green) in a round plug going to the CPS. 2 wires going to the coil (white-blue).. a solid black to ground and violet wire to the vacuum sensor between the cylinders. Well... the 32405-91B wires are a little different. The wires on the new IM are red with white stripe, green with white stripe, black with white stripe. I presume those are the CPS (round plug) wires. white wire, a violet with white stripe, a pink wire, and a solid black that I would think that is chassis ground! Pretty simple actually huh? Only thing is the bike just cranks over with no signs of wanting to start! I can plug the 32405-88A back in (charred wires going into the unit and all) and the first couple cranks the motor will quickly fire for a second then just cranking again. Put the new one in and it just turns over with no quick fire or pop! I think I have to have these wires wrong other than the solid black ground, and the three (red black and green) to the CPS. or I think I have the Pink, White , and Violet wires mixed up? Would anybody know the where the colors on the new Module actually go, or what wires actually go to the Top and Bottom coil posts? Harley told me that this IM #32405-91B would work???? I sure hope so after laying down 324.00 bucks!!!! Any input you may have would be once again GREAT!!!!

Pink to (-) on coil
White to (+) on coil (along with white wire from main harness for ign voltage)
Violet goes to VOES
Hard to read without paragraphs, but I think you have the cam sensor wires correct. They simply match color to color except for the stripes.
* Read thru it all again (after coffee) Generally, with exception of bad or damaged wires, when a module dies, it's done - never fires again. Quite possible the cam sensor is defective or even a bad coil. Insure the module is wired correctly and post back. There's a couple simple tests that will help narrow down the no fire culprit.

Checked all my wiring.
I had the module wired correctly.
However.. the CPS was bad.
I had a spare to install and the bike fired right up! These Cam Positioning Sensors get very hot and are failing.
I'm going to wrap header heat wrap on the section that is near that Cam Sensor cover.
That hopefully will keep enough heat off of it to keep it from failing again.. Thank you for you help..
You were correct to check the CPS.
I always thought the Softail Customs came with a solid disc rear wheel and the Dyna wide glides had spokes.
Do you know if your bike originally came with the solid rim?

Hey thanks! I just bought this one two months ago. One owner bike 9000 miles man! I was very fortunate. They did come standard with a solid wheel. I did get a lot of info' about this bike from the previous owners family but not sure about the real wheel if was ordered or put on after? Harley Davidson ran the VIN# for me and told me more as well. One being ; out of 6,712 Softails made in 88' to be sold anywhere in the world only 250 were identical as this! This cycle isn't perfect by far. I've busted my hands cleaning this thing up. And had a ton of help from great people in this forum! Just some 34 year old parts going bad with it.. as expected! Throw a photo of yours my way bud,, like to see it!!! 👀
