A good starting point would be to ditch the Short Shots and put a 2 into 1 exhaust on the bike.

Thanks! I'll change them. I've read some place about torque cones. Are they any good? Waste of money?

Some like them, others says they are "snake oil" worth.

The British engine guru (cars) Dave Wizzard writes in one of his many books that they work.
And he also explains the theory in a car magazine article called
> Classical gas < magazine is from the eighties.

They are suposed to work in the same way as D-porting the exhaust ports in the cylinder head.

Is it working or is it "Snake oil"?

They are cheap so why not try it for your self?

Time to shoot for torque goal is when picking cam. The cam and exhaust work together to produce torque..
Some cams are more forgiving than others.
The 518 with the right exhaust will work well. It also will do well with a little increase in compression.

Yeah, the cam is where you want to look, with the ignition after that. Torque is HP at RPM, with some maffs and ****. But more HP at lower RPM is more torque. A high-HP at high-RPM cam is generally going to be low on "torque." Forced induction can put more HP at low RPM, especially with a supercharger. Some turbos can come on low enough too, at a cost of high RPM HP. There's no free lunch.

My 26 year old EVO is still as it came from factory. It is not fast it is not a torque monster . But it still fun to ride.
Done right the EVO with a Little head work, cam to fit you style of riding and an exhaust that works with the cam to achieve your goals is a good machine.

Evo @ stock 8.5-1 compression with your 42 intake valve closing is going to be better but still not touching it's potential. A good formula for a 80" Evo is 10.0-1 compression, a cam like yours, slight head work and descent exhaust. Intake valve closing controls compression, with stock compression a EV13 with a earlier intake closing will have more torque but falls off in the rpm range where the 42 is more of a balance but with compression it will have the lower torque. At that compression a later intake closing cam will carry power deeper into the rpm's and still have torque, it's a balancing game.

Harleys exhaust need some restriction to be efficient, reasons why members are hard on the short shots, Harleys with their crank design tend to leave spent gases stagnant in the pipes actually being pulled back to the cylinder, the next exhaust pulse redirects the unburnt gases back out with a collision and the process starts over. 2-1 pulls the spent gases out with a vacuum effect leaving a clear pipe for the pulse, that's why they work. Best 2-1, still depends on the application.

Torque cones, Singh grooves, drag pipes, everyone has a idea and up to the person using them if they work, bottom line is don't circle around what makes a Evo run and it's compression, all of the do dad's and cam's on the market installed and gain 4 hp, still flat on the bottom end.
