Rode about 300+ miles this past weekend. Rode it harder than I normally do, trying to keep up with my friend on his 103 Road King. 50% of the ride was around 70-80 mph. At 80 mph my bike is sitting at 3800 rpm's if my tach is accurate. When I gassed up the math told me 44.2 mpg.
Dan89FLSTC mentioned an enrichener not seating properly. This weekend I discovered the zip ties that hold the (broken plastic) 'Choke' *** to the bracket is preventing it from closing all the way. Going to need to replace it with a better one. The Mikuni one I found online is metal where the OEM one is plastic.
At those speeds, 44'ish is good, normal.
Don't use a Mikuni cable. You'll need to change several other parts and pieces if you do. Use a new HD cable and replace the starter valve while you have it apart. (27583-88)
PS The choke **** should sit slightly off the outer nut when the valve is fully closed.

All of you cats must be 5'6" and weigh 110lbs riding 55 MPH to get those numbers. LOL.
My 6'6" 325lb *** running 75-80 gets about 30 on my 96" stroker, about the same with the 113" motor in it and same speeds.
Griz
OK I'll bite.., My 5'7" 160 lbs *** in my stroker 96"er with 1:1 gearing at 3.28:1 is maybe 33.. But with jetting at .032", .076"and a 1.2 mm T-jet it's really hard to get good mileage.. But wait, "I DIDN'T BUILD IT FOR BABYING"....
My 2013 Dyna is a totally different story... Light build 103"er just got 48.9 on my last 650 mile trip...
Totally agree on that. I built the 96" for fun not mileage.
Here in Houston the freeways run about 75 or so, which eliminates a lot of the babying factor.
I run an AF meter on the dresser with the 96" in it and I can see the range, so it's not overly rich when cruising and drops when the cruise kicks in on hills, etc.
The carb (44MM CV) seems as dialed in as possible according to the meter. Revs aren't all that high even running 75 or so due to the 6 speed in it.
It's actually fine with me, I just always wonder about the high numbers people get.
Your smart to use an AFR gauge.. I also use a Wego III.. Yeah I can do 75 cruise but not 80... Screams a little, not stock gearing... Geared like the older FXR's..
