Default 1996 Electra glide newbie

Hello all! rode bikes for years but first time Harley owner. Didnt know what I was missing out on!

I have a question and maybe its an easy one for most of you...I need to remove the front wheel to have a tire repaired. I understand the brake calipers removal but I also see a cable which I am thinking is the speedometer and I dont have a clue how to remove it. Any help would be appreciated!

Mike

When you pull out the axle from the forks the speedometer drive will fall off and the cable is attached to that. No need to remove cable from the drive. You may want to check the condition of the foam speedometer seal when putting back together.

Thanks for the tip! I did'nt want to start wrenching on things and mess it up. Tried to order a service manual but the delivery date is over 4 weeks from now.

Follow torque specs when re installing wheel

Make sure to get the tab for the speedo drive gear in the slot. There is a tendancy for the drive gear to rotate when tightening the axle nut. Need to keep it in position so you don't end up with the cable not in its proper position.

What's that L shaped bracket you have? I've never seen that before.

A service manual would make for a great investment.
The service manual and this forum are a god resource.
Below is a link for a parts finder that may help you to identify parts (assembly).

Wish I could say but I do not know. Not in the parts manual that I could find. Came with the bike.

That bracket was a add on to mount those chrome rotor covers, you can remove that.
