The "little *****" that Yankee pointed out are bits of carbon that wipe away easily. Not hard carbon. They are throughout the intake manifold as well. The front cylinder, head, valves and valve train all look good. Not sure were that piece came from. It fell out of the exhaust port when I pulled the header off. What a mystery???

Heads coming off no way round that and yeah that's a chunk of valve guide, intake from the looks. Come be any number of whys at this point so I'll hold judgement till you pull it down with more info. Something fubared a valve in that rear head and spalled off that guide piece, engine ran just long enough to spit it out the exhaust port but there is going to be some ugly in there. Piston's a goner, at least one valve is bent, I'm thinking both and the combustion chamber on the head will be chewed, she locked up hard the cylinder is toast too. Plugs not coming out as the bottom got chewed up flared or threads dented up.

I have seen a plug loose the insulator and take a valve out before.

You are looking at fairly substantial tear down to inspect pretty much everything at this point.

Sorry man,

Sorry man,
As soon as it happened I knew I would be tearing the motor apart. I'm grateful it wasn't worse. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Holy sh*t!!!
Rear cylinder! When I put the new S&S adjustable push rods in I blew thru 2 of them like blowing thru a straw. I should have tested all 4. the rear intake push rod had almost no passage. Looks like almost no oil flow to the rear intake. Got hot enough to break/seize/crack the intake valve and destroy my top end.

Wow. I guess only good thing is you weren’t on the road at 60 mph when it locked up.

Not a lot of things are uglier than pulling an exhaust pipe and having pieces of metal fall out.

Damn.

Ugly but less damage than I was expecting, cam chest is next for a look see. Those lifters took a hard hit too.

Already planning new lifters. I'm wondering how much metal particles and pieces made it past the hole in the piston and into the bottom end. Thinking the hole motor might have to come apart at this point.

If it's my motor, I'm splitting the cases. Not only because of the possibility of stray bits finding their way into the bottom end, but also because the crank and rods (at least the rear one) took a solid hit.

Just my $0.02.

PS: Is the engine freed up at this point?
