So, a hard learning from this... if the assembly instructions say "check passages are clear" then don't do 2 and assume the other 2 are OK.
IF it came with instructions. I made the assumption they were clear. Never heard of new pushrods being plugged up from the factory so a made the mistake of 'assumption'.

It would be interesting to see if you could clean out whatever was in them. Wondering if they aren't plugged up with motor parts. Would be nice to know if they were the cause or possibly came after the top end ate itself.
I'd be concerned about a bent rod or damage to the rod bearings because a lot of pressure and stress was on that rod when it hit TDC with the broken valve head lose in the cylinder. Check them closely while the top end is off. Although I'm not sure how you can check for a bent rod in the engine on an EVO. They had a tool for Shovels and earlier engines, but I do not think the tool works with EVO or later engines because of the cylinder studs.

I tried to get the piece out, unsuccessful. I was thinking the piece is too big to get thru the holes in the ends of the push rod so I cut the rod open. The piece still wont come out. It's stuck pretty good. Cleaned the inside with carb cleaner and tried blowing things out with 125psi compressed air. No success. The piece that's blocking the hole is stuck really good. Must be a part left in from the manufacturing process. It seems to be attached to the top end piece. If I had known I would have cut closer to that end. Oh, well.
I will be ordering the 'Quikee Push Rods' when the time comes, or does anyone have any positive experience with other brands? I'm also thinking of getting a set of OEM push rods if anyone has a set.
She's apart and inspected. I feel REALLY BLESSED! The 2 pieces I found in the breather gear cam from inside the damaged piston. Absolutely NO DAMAGE to the cases or crank.
There is no play at all when I push/pull/tug on the connecting rods in any direction so I believe the bushings are good. I was hoping I wouldn't have to replace them.
