OK, I've finally had it with the wind buffeting coming up from around the tank on my '93 Heritage Classic. I'm sure the windshield is contributing to most of it but what's available to combat it besides "fangs" on the forks?
I have the Clearview 6.5" with the recurve and have had good results, however; my fangs have just about completely eliminated the buffeting (You no likey the fangs?) when I say "my fangs" that's because I built my own.
The old head tech and brother of the owner at the indy shop I went to (before the state put them out of business) ran fangs on his M8 Road King. I ran fangs on my ’20 FLHX to great success, but sold the bike.
I’m shopping a Road King now and plan to run a windshield with fangs, regardless of how they look simply because of how well they worked.
Yep fork deflectors work, had them on my 08 Heritage Softail with the windshield and now have them on my 98 Electra Glide Classic with a batwing fairing. Not the prettiest but they do work cutting down or eliminating the buffeting. I also lowered the windshield on my batwing fairing.
The buffeting is caused by the air coming around, under and over the screens and trying to fill the lower pressure area behind the windshield/batwing fairing. The deflectors direct more air up behind the screens, which in most cases will eliminate the buffeting. You could also cut a vent in the screen that would do the same thing, but even less pretty.
