I pulled the starter on my bike as it needs a rebuild, how I managed to weasel it out of there I'm not quite sure, but I did.
As far as putting it back I see no way as it sits now.
Parts 44 and 46 are still in the primary case, if i can remove them, or at least 44 , the reinstall, should work , i think.
Can i pull the circlip part 16 and remove part 44 out the left side and reinstall once the starter is back in place?
Part 44 will not come out as it just butts up against the clutch basket.
I see no mention of this in the manual.
Pull the outer primary, undo the tab on the starter gear bolt, pull it all out and start over. Take notice of which way round things come out. Gets messy if you try shortcuts.

That's all been done starter is sitting on bench.
Only the two parts mentioned won't come out, may have to pull clutch basket i think.
Just so we are visualizing the same thing here....you have taken out that long thin bolt that goes in the middle of the starter gear that won't come out past the clutch basket?

Nope bolt is out, part 44 in diagram won't slide out.

I see no diagram.....
The gear should slide out of the coupling, try holding the jackshaft gear and tapping the coupling back toward the motor. It will come clear of the clutch once it is out of the coupling.
Like Spanners says, disengage #17 from #46, #44 has to come out of #30, then you should be able to remove all of it.
don't try to pass #30 though the seal, and don't turn it around, it goes in one way, IIRC, counter bore in #30 faces outboard.
Caution; if the starter is in place and the electrical is connected, and if you pull the jackshaft out far enough, it will engage the solenoid and the starter will spin.
