Default engine knock.

New to Evo Classic forum, also have a Dyna. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have 97 Flhts with 1340 cc with around 30k on it. I've had this knocking noise for a long time and was told that it was normal. Well I finally got tired of the noise and tried to diagnose it. It sounded like the noise was coming from the camshaft,so I removed the cam without removing the heads(put in adjustable pushrods). The cam had some wear but not enough to make this noise. I replaced the cam and lifters anyway. Road it a few hundred miles noise still there. Pulled the front head off the rod had excessive play. I removed the engine and disassembled it. The front rod bearings were pitted and the crank has a large groove init. Anybody have any Idea why this happened? I change the oil evry 3,000 miles ? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Does anyone know a good place to buy the parts I need?

a few harley davidson dealers on the internet offer 20% discount plus no tax example zanottis , surdyke, chicago
but you must have the part numbers..
if you do not get an informed response..consider placing a post in touring section...there are several informed individuals that visit that section

A lot of times the reason the rod bearings do that is because during buiding the rods are set up way to tight. Have put in a couple of Harley reman motors and had to take them back out and re-do the rods.

If you want a good price and quick shipping I would say go here and get a catalog => http://www.jirehcycles.com/site-map.htm

The online ordering is not the best.

What do you mean by too tight ? I know I have to press the flywheel together and true it. Is there a trick to doing this? I ordered a crank, bearings, rod bushing, rings and full gasket kit. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
