When I start the engine there is a whining or whinging noise coming from the engine. After warmup it mostly stops. It is pretty loud. Any ideas what it might be?
Is it the FXLR you are talking about? I always read a cam shaft bearing that has gone south makes a whinging noise, but I never heard it myself.
If it is, take care. In no time the whole bearing is gone and the cam shaft start eating away your engine casing.
How many miles on motor?
Does sound like cam bearing, if you do take it apart for a look then you need to replace the bearing if it looks like the one on the left in the photo. Need a full roller bearing like the right one.
On my '99 Evo motor the "whining noise" I thought might be coming from the inner cam bearing turned out to be coming from what was going on at the other end of the cam. It rides in a bushing on the "outboard" end. That was where the wear was happening. The bushing was loose in the cam cover and getting "wallered out" ( sorry for the technical term, but that's what we call it down home.)
