That style pipe it's common even through the twinkies years, I've help redo several, even did one on the job for a coworkers bike that let go completely pulling into the parking lot, he had a 130 mi. a day round trip commute.
Check all the iso mounts particularly the rear on for that side, they get old, harden up and crack.
Probably are hard....I will be saving pennies for a true dual setup now.
Pulled the rear Y pipe off and welded it back together. Had almost a 75% crack around the split. I know that I've heard that it's a design flaw and it will crack again.
How long do I got to find a replacement exhaust?

Is that a Mikuni sitting under the tank? I didn't think there was room on a 84-88 tank but may have been totally wrong and it has been on my mind lately.

tank is spaced up on the rear mounts for the HS40. I haven't made the adapter/spacer yet but it should be done by the end of the month.
I have had two Ys welded. One might be in service still. One, and I may be wrong, but seemed to flex, and couldn't seperate. It was my first welded Y, and many years ago, maybe I could have done better.
I do now, use anti seize on joints, maybe that would have helped.
I am told a cracked Y is a sign of bad motor mount. One of mine was driving over curb to park. Something I did with smaller bikes regularly.
