It must be a combination of me approaching 50 and not having ridden my Harley in about 10 years. But holly hell, the thunderheader isn't going to work out. Even with earplugs my head is rattling after an hour ride. Not to mention I'm sure I'm annoying the hell out of every house I passed on the country roads.
There's not too much out there for a '96 dyna (FXDS). My googling landing on the SUPERTRAPP 825-71358 exhaust. In the past I've never liked the idea of their design, but maybe it makes the most sense. I hate to drop another $850 on an old bike, but if it lets me enjoy riding it, it might be worth it. Any other pipes I should look into?
I don't want it to be stock quiet, just not setting off car alarms and having everyone within ear shot turn around to see what's coming.

When i got my Ultra all said and done I swore I was going to get a D&D fatcat 2-1 for it.
I loved them. Ran them before
Jump 6 months ahead with true duals and rhineharrt cans. Nope I like what i have now LMAO
I'm 68
I had the same thing with my bagger. The TH performed well but was way too loud, I went with Supertrapp tunable mufflers and never looked back. I lost 5 ft/tq and HP remained the same, it was definitely worth it for me to tone it down. Quieter while cruising and they wake up when I get on it. Rather than spend the $ on a new system you might be able to pick up a gently used set from one of those guys that is chasing the right pipe and isn't finding what he wants. I have to find something to tone down the FXRT pipes.
That's what I'm thinking. I did a hillside stage one build which they said I should be rocking 80hp/80ft lbs at the wheel. It's plenty fast for me. In fact during a typical ride, I don't even rev it out past 4000 so losing a few HP for a lower tone won't be an issue.
