Default My Softail is going through changes!

As much as I liked my Softail when I built it, it is not "punkrock" enough for my liking. This thread will not be quick because I am not even going to start on stuff until after Biketoberfest.

Here is the game plan.....

1. Sportster front end (narrowglide)
2. Mount an alien tank
3. Get the alien tank painted
4. Rewire to simplify it
5. A little bit taller narrow apes
6. Maybe build a new sissybar

My bike is already very simplified with wiring. No horn, hand controls, turn signals, or start button. I am already running a automotive style ignition switch mounted on the motor mount.

Photos to follow tomorrow of the new tank. I already have it and blind hole threaded bungs. I just need to do mock up and pick up more parts from the swapmeet.

I am keeping the same exhaust. I need it because it is the only one that I have that will fit with floorboards. I debated putting mids on it but then I would have an even harder time finding an exhaust that I like that fits.

Primer'd the tank and test fit to see what brackets I need to cut and what side I want to
Run the petcock on. Looks like I'll need a 1/4 npt pingel.

Still pondering where I am going to stick my hi-lo beam switch.

When I had my Sporty I mounted a toggle switch (on/off/on) on the headlight shell.

You'll need to quickly focus your attention to shaving down the back of the bike.
Once you get that narrow front end and peanut tank on there you'll see what I'm talking about.

Get out your Sawsall and cut off the rear frame horns, ditch the fastback seat and fender.
Get a flat 6" wide flat trailer fender and fab it to ride with the swing arm so the whole set up looks like a rigid frame from 20 feet away. Maybe a spoto tail light on a sissy bar with your plate below it.

I guess you realize that the floorboards have to go too huh? I'd fab up some twisted railroad spike foot pegs on both mid-bike and off the front engine mount.

That will distance you from somebody bolting on parts to somebody actually building a bike.

I agree with thinning out the bike to match the front end It's a good idea...

I won't cut the struts but I may thi it out down the road. I don't like a trailer fender but something a little smaller like this may workMy Softail is going through changes!-photo862.jpgMy Softail is going through changes!-photo212.jpg

It's the small victories that matter. My new tank is kinda small but that's how I want it. I am running a big inch motor, so I needed a petcock that flows well and has a large outlet. I ordered a pingel that fit the 1/4 npt hole size.

I got the petcock in but the inlet tube was hitting the tunnel and it wouldn't thread in. I did some shopping for other petcocks but couldn't find any with a reserve. I was laying in the guest room on the bed with the tank pondering. I came up with the idea of shortening the pickup tube. Now she fits
