Does some one have a evo Electra Glide of 1985-6ish vintage that could measure the length of the mufflers? I have a FXRD and the mufflers resemble whats on the dressers of that year but they have a different part number. This FXRD is a Grand Touring edition and they only built 1000 of them in 1986 which was their only year of production.
I measured the ones on my FXRD and they were about 2 feet long while the mufflers on my 03 Road Glide are closer to 3 feet. Since the pipes are unobtainable I would like to take them off so they dont rust out or whatever. Also it truly is as quiet as a Honda. Its unbelievable how quiet that thing is. Im trying to determine if slips on from a dresser of that era would fit.
I found a set of FXRD pipes and mufflers a few years ago and swapped them onto my FXRC. The mufflers were too quiet so I looked around and found a set of Rinehart slipons for an Indian Scout that were VERY close dimension wise to the FXRD mufflers. A little work and they went on and sound great.

I got the Rineharts on Craigslist pretty cheap. The Indian Scout guys buy them then find out they are too loud. They unload them as a result. They are only about 1.5" shorter than the stock FXRD mufflers. I took a Rinehart and a left side head pipe with me to an auto parts store and matched up the inlet and outlet to a muffler adapter. Found the size I wanted, cut the adapter to lengthen the muffler a bit, tack welded it to the Rinehart and that was it. No mods to the original FXRD pipes at all. In fact, I can swap both FXRD mufflers back on in less than 15 minutes if I want. I did have to fab a place to mount the muffler hanger but if you see it, that's a 5 minute job with a grinder and drill. One thing I also did was take the Rhinehart's apart and wrap the baffles. It got them to quiet down enough to not **** off my neighbors before 8 o'clock. The ugly part is covered up with heat shields I got from a swap meet.
