Hi
I just purchased a 1989 FLH and the volume doesnt seem to be working on the radio. All the other handlebar functions work, but still no sound. Any ideas? Is it the radio itself? How can I check/test?
I apprecite the feedback and I will have a few more questions as I work out the "minor" details of my new ride!!
Best to pay your money and get the HD service manual and the Hd parts catalog. I find them to be invaluable in maintaining my 89. they have a section for troubleshooting the radio and the vlume control swithc on the handelbars. If the switch is good, but the radio is shot, replacement from the dealer can't happen because the radio is listed as obsolete. Biketronics.com offers a very affordable radio (called the retro radio) and speakers that will work with your handlebar controls and will also provide you with am/fm/cd/mp3 capability.
As said, get the manual. Until then check that the CB is off, if on make sure squelch is high. check for moisture iand proper operation of handlebar switches.. check that speaker switch is on. Blow out DIN recepticle with air and clean with contact cleaner.Don't ask how I know.
