Default 80" EVO engine

I have a 80-inch EVO engine which I want to install and put to good use. It came out of a 1996 Road King. What year and model bikes would accept the engine directly without modification? I am thinking about a lite maneuverable bike that will accelerate easily the engine will be modified for more performance.

Good year model of engine.
The Dyna line would be your best bet. 1985 to 98, but keeping it close to the late 90's would be best.

The first year of the Dyna Glide was 1991.

It will fit in any chassis that originally had an Evo engine in it.

Before the Dyna was the FXR,hand made frame engineered by Eric Buell it was a great handing bike and also light weight for a big twin.
I had one for a decade and always regretted selling in 2002 it to pay off a new bagger I bought in 2000.
Fast forward to 2022 I bought another FXR as a restomod project.
The first two years were 1982/1983 with Shovel motors but the Evo will fit.

Default 80-inch evo engine performance

Does anyone know the maximum performance (hp/torgue)that can be gained from a completely rebuilt 80 inch evolution engine with an upgrade ignition, exhaust and a dyno tune.

Very Vague question..
Will need to exactly what will be in the rebuilt engine..
Bored? Higher comp pistons? New cam shaft? Head work? Carburation?

How much money you got?

a factory stocker was around 55 hp, but a mild build will double that output still be reliable, no reason not to up it, if it is already apart or needs rebuilding for any reason.

To the first question like Dan stated any Evo frame with slight primary differences, that you would also need, along with transmission.

There is aftermarket frames available also, the most important thing you with need is a title or a MSO to legally title one.

Default Update

I made arrangements to pick up a 1998 Harley Davidson Wide Glide.
About my question concening a 80 inch EVO engine and performance potential. I intend to use a machine shop to rebuild my engine. I want to address all topics in the scope of work for the shop. I know if I provide minnial input the outcome will not be positive
Update: I did some research and found a website called Zippers Performance. The site offers a 80/80 performance package. The package lists all the parts and suggested machine work. The horsepower potential is about 90 to the rear wheel. The parts package and work described by Zippers looks promising.

There are lots of older threads about EVO stock bore and stroke recipes.

Once apart you can asses what you have. In broad general terms here sorta like a generic recipe. Don’t just start buying parts until it’s torn down. That determines what parts and what direction.

Forged Pistons- true mechanical compression in the realm of 10.5:1 if street ridden.
Heads -Good Valve job, new parts that match cam, or better yet aftermarket like Edlebrock or S&S
Carb -Performance carb like S&S E
Hyd. Lifters- good quality like S&S
Push Rods- can use stock but recommend chromoly adjustable
Breather- recommend a good steel breather gear like S&S
Cam - good cam, something with around 560 to 610 lift & 250 to 270 duration close to 108-110 lobe separation
Clutch -probably get by with a added pressure plate and something like a SE spring
Pipes -either stock with very large free flowing slip on mufflers or a 2 into one like Thunder header or Bassani

Be prepared to put $2500 to $5000 into it depending on what needs to be replaced and labor.

If that’s overwhelming, Just take it apart and see if you need new pistons or not, that’s key. If stock still just get a EV 27, 13 or 46 cam, use stock pushrods, test your springs, get a good valve job and keep it simple for maybe $1000 to $1500 depending on parts and labor. If a shop does it all.. add a thousand.
