Looks to me like the clutch adjustment rod (w/locknut) is out really far. Just to be clear, you thread the cable adjuster all the way collapsed and then turn the allen rod all the way in and back out 1/2 turn. Lock it then adjust the cable adjuster. Right?

Pull the ball thingy apart and make sure the tab on the inner bearing ramp is in the right place..

Correct, cable adjusted threaded collapsed.

Allen rod in to just lightly seated, 1/2 turn back, and tighten nut.

Adjust cable.

The ramp to cable is over clocked - you need to psh it to the rear of the cover then do the screw

This.
I was just about to say the position is all the way disengaged. The ball are at the top of the ramps. They need to be at the bottom when installed. May need to put some grease on them to hold them in place. Make sure the cable is pushed all the way in. Position should be like 11 o'clock.

Dude! That was it! Makes sense now as I just recalled grabbing the clutch lever when the side cover was off.

Clutch is adjusted. Thanks for the help!

To keep the ball and ramp arm in position, put a spring on the end of the cable, inside the cover.

PN 33201-79 is commonly used (only available from aftermarket, but you could probably source a suitable spring at a hardware store).

I didn`t take that pic, it was on another site, but I think I know what it is...

Redline MTL Gear Lube.

I can tell you for sure this is Redline MTL (it`s my Softail transmission case ).
