97 WG - Attempted to adjust the clutch for about an hour plus and no dice. I followed the manual and YT videos. I've done this 6+ before and it is ~ 20 minute process.
Have not done anything with the clutch or basket. I did change the primary chain, but that was prior to replacing the head gasket - which required me to put the bike in 5th gear to rotate the tire.
I did have the side cover for the transmission off to paint it. I drained the tranny fluid and rechecked the side cover and it appears to be OK - moving the clutch lever I could see inside moving.
Scratching my head in this one. Hopefully it's something easy. 😁
You didn't say what the problem was.
Did you reconnect the clutch cable after you reinstalled the cover?
I know you've done it before but obviously you're missing something.
Start over, loosen everything
in line adjuster, nut and clutch rod.
Turn in rod until it just touches and the allen wrench just hangs under it's own weight
Then turn it OUT 1/4-1/2 a turn, hold the rod and tighten the nut.
Take up the slack in the cable with the in line adjuster until there's a nickel's worth of slack at the perch between the cable feral and the perch,
lock the adjuster nuts. check primary and trans fluid levels.
Need to be specific. Left side...derby cover where primary clutch adjustment is done. Right side...transmission cover where the cable mounts. Maybe ball and ramp issue?
